Nueve meses y La soledad de América Latina / Neun Monate und ueber die Einsamkeit Lateinamerikas

Hemos llegado hace un par de días a Colombia, donde hemos cumplido nueve meses de ruta! Aquí en Bogota, en casa de mis padres, gozaremos de un necesario receso del agite turístico. Haremos sólo un par de breves excursiones fuera de la capital y, además de los encuentros familiares y con los amigos, exploraremos nuevos lugares de la ciudad y disfrutaremos de su actividad cultural. Hemos llegado en un momento en que se producen noticias importantes para el país: fueron liberados cuatro rehenes políticos de las FARC que llevaban seis años en cautiverio, un grupo de 18 policías discapacitados por la guerra llegaron a Bogotá procedentes de Medellín (hicieron todo el camino en sus sillas de ruedas) para exigir la liberación de sus compañeros que están en manos de las FARC desde hace más de diez años en algunos casos, y ayer el gobierno anunció que había dado de baja a "Raúl Reyes", el segundo hombre en la línea de mando de las FARC, el golpe más duro que se le ha propinado a esta guerrilla en sus cuatro décadas de existencia. La próxima semana (el 6 de marzo) habrá una marcha en favor de las víctimas de los paramilitares y en contra del terrorismo de Estado, que seguramente repetirá la enorme movilización que se produjo el pasado 4 de febrero, cuando millones de personas salieron a caminar en todo el país (en Bogotá se movilizó más de la mitad de su población) y en ciudades del extranjero en contra de las FARC y a favor de la liberación de los secuestrados. Ojalá todo esto sean señales de que el conflicto pueda llegar a su fin en un futuro cercano...
Como estamos en Colombia, hemos querido rescatar el discurso pronunciado por García Márquez en 1982 cuando recibió el Premio Nobel de Literatura, llamado "La soledad de América Latina", ya que a pesar de que han transcurrido 25 años, tiene una enorme actualidad acerca de la realidad de América Latina, de su especificidad, de su soledad, y llega a ser conmovedor para quien tiene relación con esta enorme sección del continente americano. "Me atrevo a pensar, que es esta realidad descomunal [la de América Latina], y no sólo su expresión literaria, la que este año ha merecido la atención de la Academia Sueca de las Letras. Una realidad que no es la del papel, sino que vive con nosotros y determina cada instante de nuestras incontables muertes cotidianas, y que sustenta un manantial de creación insaciable, pleno de desdicha y de belleza, del cual este colombiano errante y nostálgico no es más que una cifra más señalada por la suerte. Poetas y mendigos, músicos y profetas, guerreros y malandrines, todas las criaturas de aquella realidad desaforada hemos tenido que pedirle muy poco a la imaginación, porque el desafío mayor para nosotros ha sido la insuficiencia de los recursos convencionales para hacer creíble nuestra vida. Este es, amigos, el nudo de nuestra soledad."

Nun sind wir schon neun Monate unterwegs und sind vor kurzem in Bogotá in Kolumbien angekommen. Zu Hause bei seinen Eltern ruhen wir uns etwas vom Touristendasein aus. Aber natuerlich schauen wir uns alle neuen Orte an und treffen Familie und Freunde. Ausserdem erleben wir bewegende Momente mit: vor wenigen Tagen wurden vier politische Geiseln der FARC (groesste Guerillagruppe in Kolumbien) freigelassen, nach sechs bis acht Jahren in Gefangenschaft, am gleichen Tag kamen 18 durch den Krieg behinderte Polizisten (den ganzen Weg im Rollstuhl von Medellín aus) in Bogotá an, um fuer die Freilassung ihrer entfuehrten Kollegen, oft vor ueber zehn Jahren, zu demonstrieren. Heute Morgen wurde die Nummer 2 der FARC, alias Raúl Reyes, an der Grenze zwischen Ecuador und Kolumbien getoetet, der groesste Schlag gegen die Guerilla seit eh und je. Am 6.3. findet eine zweite Demonstration in ganz Kolumbien statt, um gegen die Gewalt der Paramilitaeren zu demonstrieren, nachdem am 4.Februar sechs Millionen Menschen gegen die Gewalt, die Guerilla und fuer die Freilassung der Geiseln in Kolumbien auf die Strasse gingen, allein vier Millionen in Bogotá, die Haelfte der Bevoelkerung der Stadt! Damit erscheint die Moeglichkeit eines Geiselaustauschs, Geiseln der FARC gegen Guerilleros im Gefaengnis, etwas naeher. Auch wenn das Land sicherer geworden ist, als in frueheren Jahren, geht der Krieg zwischen Guerrilla, Staat und Paramilitaeren weiter. Aber auf einmal mit all diesen Ereignissen erscheint ein Hoffnungsschimmer, dass es ein Ende dieses Kriegs, der seit ueber vierzig Jahren laeuft, geben kann. Hoffen wir das Beste fuer Kolumbien!

Da wir uns in Kolumbien aufhalten, haben wir die bewegende Rede von Gabriel Garcia Marquez zur Annahme des Nobelpreises fuer Literatur im Jahr 1982 rausgekramt, die auch heute noch aktuell ist. Now it's already nine months that we are on the road and arrived a few days before in Colombia. At the home of Ricardos parents we are taking a short rest of our life as a tourist. But of course we are also visiting all the new places in the city, will do two excursions and are meeting family and friends. Moreover we are living very emotional moments of the country: a few days ago four political hostages of the FARC (the biggest guerilla group in Colombia)have been set free, after from six to eight years in captivity. On the same day 18 handicapped policemen arrived in Bogotá which have gone from Medellín to Bogotá in wheel chair to demonstrate for the release of their collegues kidnapped by the FARC, some already for ten years. This morning the number 2 of the FARC, alias Raúl Reyes, was killed by the army on the border between Ecuador and Colombia, the biggest blow against the guerrilla warfare since ever. On 6th of March, a second demonstration will take place in Colombia to demonstrate against the Paramilitairs, after the demonstration on the 4th of February, when six million people went out into the streets against the violence, the guerrilla and for the release of the hostages in Colombia, whereof four millions only in Bogotá, half of its population! So all at once with all these events appears a glimmer of hope that there can be an end of this war which runs already for fifty years. Let's hope the best for Colombia!

Although held already more than twenty years ago in 1982, the moving speech of Gabriel Garcia Marquez when accepting the Nobel prize for literature is still very uptodate. I dare to think that it is this outsized reality [the one of Latin America], and not just its literary expression, that has deserved the attention of the Swedish Academy of Letters. A reality not of paper, but one that lives within us and determines each instant of our countless daily deaths, and that nourishes a source of insatiable creativity, full of sorrow and beauty, of which this roving and nostalgic Colombian is but one cipher more, singled out by fortune. Poets and beggars, musicians and prophets, warriors and scoundrels, all creatures of that unbridled reality, we have had to ask but little of imagination, for our crucial problem has been a lack of conventional means to render our lives believable. This, my friends, is the crux of our solitude.




Das Rathaus von Bogotá am Plaza Bolivar spricht sich fuer den Austausch der Geiseln und gegen die Entfuehrungen aus / The cityhall of Bogotá at the Plaza Bolivar states clearly its message for a humanitarian agreement about the hostages and against the kidnapping.


También es muy interesante el discurso pronunciado por García Márquez en Cartagena de Indias en 2007, como respuesta al homenaje que se le brindó durante el IV Congreso de la Lengua Española celebrado en esa ciudad. "Este milagro es la demostración irrefutable de que hay una cantidad enorme de personas dispuestas a leer historias en lengua castellana, y por lo tanto un millón de ejemplares de 'Cien años de soledad' no son un millón de homenajes a un escritor que hoy recibe sonrojado el primer libro de este tiraje descomunal. Es la demostración de que hay un millón de lectores en lengua castellana hambrientos de este alimento."
