En las antípodas: Sydney / Sydney - Auf der anderen Seite des Globus

 

Como a partir de Australia los carteles de “llegada” o “bienvenida” ya no muestran caracteres distintos de nuestro alfabeto (y por eso los ibamos registrando), hemos cambiado nuestra foto de inicio de cada pais por una con la aerolinea caracteristica, en este caso el canguro de Quantas. Queriamos en un comienzo pasar tres dias en Sydney, y dado que con el cambio de vuelo en Bangkok esa breve estancia se reducia a un suspiro de dos dias, decidimos cambiar la fecha de salida a Nueva Zelanda. Pero como no se pudo mover la fecha un dia sino dos, al final nos quedamos cuatro dias en Sydney, que en todo caso se quedaron cortos! / Da die Ankunftsschilder ab nun in keiner anderen Schrift oder schwer verstaendlichen Sprache mehr sein werden, haben wir auf ein anderes erstes Merkmal umgeschwenkt, wo wir gerade angekommen sind: Der Flughafen in Sydney wimmelt natuerlich von Qantas Flugzeugen... Die eigentlich erst geplanten drei vollstaendigen Tage in Sydney wurden durch den spaeteren Flug von Bangkok aus erst zu ungenuegenden zwei Tagen. Aber nachdem wir den naechsten Flug nach Neuseeland nicht auch um einen Tag verschieben konnten, da die Maschine voll war, verlaengerten wir den Sydney Aufenthalt auf vier Tage! Aber selbst vier Tage kamen uns extrem kurz vor / As from now on the arrival signs in the airport are not showing any other characters, we looked for another typical sign to show where we just arrived. And of course the airport of Sydney is full of Qantas planes... First we planned to stay three full days in Sydney. But with the flight date change fromout Bangkok it turned to only two days. As we couldn’t move our next flight date to New Zealand to one day later as well, because the plane was full, we decided to make it four days! But even the four days seemed to come short.

 

Esta era la bonita vista sobre Elisabeth Bay desde nuestra habitacion en el Macleay Hotel, ubicado en Potts Point. La cliente australiana de Silke nos invito a la primera noche, un detalle generoso y genial, porque el hotel era un sitio muy especial. Gracias de nuevo Robyn! Aunque no era barato, nos quedamos alli el resto de noches porque no podiamos renunciar a esa vista y a la simpatica atencion del personal! / Das war der unglaubliche Blick von unserem Zimmer im Macleay Hotel in Potts Point auf die Elizabeth Bucht. Meine australische Kundin lud uns dort zur ersten Nacht ein, was wirklich sehr grosszuegig und ein tolles Geschenk war. Wir konnten uns von der Aussicht nicht mehr losreissen und blieben dann den kompletten Aufenthalt in Sydney dort! / That was the incredible view from our room in the Macleay Hotel in Potts Point on the Elizabeth bay. My Australian customer invited us to the first night there, which was really a generous and great present. Thanks again, Robyn! Afterwards we couldn’t get away from this view and stayed the whole time in Sydney there at this friendly place!

 

El dia de nuestra llegada nos encontramos a la hora del almuerzo con Vicki, una librera de arte a la que Silke conocia hasta ese momento solo por e-mail. Despues del rico almuerzo con ella y su asistente Simon, un chico muy simpatico, ella decidio espontaneamente tomarse la tarde libre y nos llevo en auto a sus lugares favoritos en Sydney, como es el caso de esta pequeña playa, Redleaf Pool, que esta cerca de la playa Seven Shillings, junto a los Blackburn Gardens. De esta manera gozamos de un tour privilegiado que nos llevo a conocer los lugares mas bonitos de la ciudad en una tarde, y asi vimos playas, bahias, parques, zonas residenciales, algunas tiendas, miradores, de una manera que jamas hubieramos conseguido como simples turistas de a pie! Fue una tarde esplendida que nos hizo olvidar completamente el jet-lag conociendo a una persona muy interesante. Gracias Vicki por esta tarde inolvidable! / Am Tag unserer Ankunft hatten wir uns mittags mit Vicki, einer Buchhaendlerin in Sydney verabredet, die ich bis dahin nur ueber Emails kannte. Nach einem sehr netten Mittagessen schloss sie spontan den Laden fuer den restlichen Nachmittag und fuhr uns zu all ihren Lieblingsplaetzen in Sydney, wie hier zum Beispiel der Redleaf Pool bei der Seven Shillings Bucht neben den Blackburn Gardens, wodurch wir die Stadt von den wunderschoensten Punkten aus kennenlernten - schoene Buchten, Straende, Parks, Wohnviertel und Aussichtspunkte - und auf eine Art, wie wir sie als normal sterbliche Touristen niemals erlebt haetten! Wir verbrachten einen tollen Nachmittag, vergassen unser jetlag und lernten eine interessante Person kennen / The day of our arrival we met Vicki, a local art bookseller, for lunch, that I knew until before only from email contact. After a very pleasant lunch also in the company of her assistant Simon, she spontaneously closed her shop for the rest of the afternoon and drove with us to all her favorite places in Sydney, as for example here the Redleaf Pool near Seven Shillings Beach next to the Blackburn Gardens, which is how we discovered the most beautiful places of the city, from beaches, bays, parks, residential areas, shops to view points, and in a way that we would have never managed as normal mortal tourists! We had a great afternoon, forgot our jetlag and got to know a very interesting person. Thanks very much Vicky for this great experience!

 

He aqui una de las razones por las que disfrutamos tanto en esta ciudad. El Real Jardin Botanico no solo es un parque precioso, sino que es un ejemplo del buen humor australiano. A diferencia de los parques de Paris donde suena un silbato apenas uno se atreve a tocar una brizna de la cuidada hierba, aqui nos invitan a ”caminar en el cesped, oler las rosas, abrazar a los arboles, hablar con los pajaros y hacer picnic en la hierba”! Y la entrada es gratis, por supuesto... / Warum uns Sydney u.a. so sympathisch war: Hier im Botanischen Garten geht es anders zu als in zum Beispiel irgendeinem Park in Paris, hier wird man direkt dazu aufgefordert, den Rasen zu betreten. Mit viel Humor, der uns des oefteren in Sydney begegnet ist, wird man ausserdem eingeladen, an den Rosen zu schnuppern, die Baeume zu umarmen, sich mit den Voegeln zu unterhalten und auf dem Rasen zu picknicken / Why we got a „soft spot“ for Sydney: here in its Botanical Garden, a beautiful park, it’s a little bit different than for example in any park in Paris, where you will hear a whistle in the moment you dare to put a foot on the lawn. And the Australian humour is just great!

 

Estas medusas son apenas una muestra de las criaturas fascinantes que vimos en el Acuario. Si hubiera un premio al que ha pasado mas tiempo ahi dentro nos lo darian a nosotros con honores, pues alargamos el horario normal de visita –una hora y media- a mas de cinco horas!!! / Diese Quallen waren nur ein kleiner Teil der vielen faszinierenden Tiere und Korallen, die wir im Aquarium beobachtet haben. Wir haetten bestimmt den Preis gewonnen, fuer die Besucher, die die laengste Zeit im Aquarium verbracht haben, naemlich sage und schreibe fuenf Stunden! Laut Personal dauert der Besuch maximal anderthalb Stunden... / These jellyfish are just a small part of all the fascinating animals and corals, that we observed in the Aquarium. We surely would have won the price of the visitors that spent the longest time in it, which was five hours! The personal at the entrance told us before, that the visit would take maximum one and a half hours...

Detras de nosotros, como no, esta la famosa Opera de Sydney y el impresionante puente sobre la bahia. No escalamos el puente, que es ahora una de las grandes atracciones turisticas, pero si pasamos por debajo en uno de los ferris locales. Esta bonita vista de las construcciones mencionadas se obtiene desde Mrs Macquaries Point, despues de atravesar el Jardin Botanico / Hinter uns sieht man das beruehmte Opernhaus von Sydney und die beeindruckende Harbour bridge rechts davon, auf die wir nicht raufgeklettert sind, eine grosse Touristenattraktion. Wir begnuegten uns damit, auf einer Faehre unter ihr durch zu fahren. Diese tolle Sicht hat man vom Mrs Macquaries Point aus, am Ende der Landzunge des botanischen Gartens / Behind us you can see the famous opera of Sydney and the impressive Harbour bridge on the right side. We did not climb up the Harbour bridge, which is a big tourist attraction, but only drove past below it on one of the local ferries. This beautiful view you get from Mrs Macquaries Point, after crossing the Botanical garden.

Ademas del Acuario, visitamos el Sydney Wildlife World, donde pudimos apreciar esas exoticas especies que solo existen en el subcontinente australiano, como estos bonitos koalas que duermen 20 horas al dia! Su sistema digestivo requiere de mucha energia para procesar las hojas tiernas de eucalipto, su unico alimento, y por eso duermen y duermen y duermen. Tampoco hay mucho de que preocuparse, pues practicamente no tienen predadores naturales, no tienen que “cazar” su comida, y no necesitan beber mucho liquido, asi que casi nunca bajan de las ramas que les sirven de cama. Una vida bastante perezosa! / Der Besuch des Sydney Wildlife World war auch spannend, um all die exotischen Tiere kennenzulernen, die es nur in Australien gibt, wie zum Beispiel hier die Koalabaeren, total knuddelig! Meistens sieht man sie allerdings schlafen, denn das tun sie 20 Stunden am Tag! Schlafen und wenig denken hilft Ihnen wertvolle Energie zu sparen. Gross den Kopf brauchen sie sich auch nicht zu zerbrechen, da sie nicht nach ihrem Essen jagen muessen und auch keine natuerlichen Feinde haben. Sie trinken auch wenig, weswegen sie wenig Zeit auf dem Boden verbringen. In meinem naechsten Leben moechte ich bitte als Koala wiedergeboren werden... / The visit of the Sydney Wildlife World was also amazing to see all these exotic animals, that only exist in Australia, as for example the Koalas here, so cute! But most of the time you will see them sleeping, as this is what they do during 20 hours of every day! To sleep and don’t think much, helps them to save valuable energy of their nutrition. There is also not much to worry about for them, as they don’t have to hunt for their food and don’t have any natural predators. As they don’t drink much, they even don’t have to spend much time on the ground. In my following life I would love to be reborn as a koala...

 

Este es un animal del que nunca habiamos oido! Es el raro “Cassowary”, un pariente de grandes aves no voladoras como el avestruz, el emu, el ñandu y el kiwi. Entre las aves, es la tercera mas alta y la segunda mas pesada, y su plumaje parece mas bien una espesa capa de grueso pelo negro. Las hembras son mas grandes, de colores mas brillantes, y son el genero dominante: en las epocas de reproduccion, la hembra se aparea con diferentes machos, y a cada uno de ellos lo deja incubando los huevos y cuidando de los pequeños, mientras se busca uno nuevo! / Wir sahen zum ersten Mal einen “cassowary”! Dieses merkwuerdige Geschoepf, was direkt aus der Urzeit zu stammen scheint, ist der drittgroesste und zweitschwerste Vogel der Welt. Ausserdam sind bei den „cassowaries“ die Damen groesser, bunter und dominieren. Sobald sie die Eier gelegt haben, ueberlassen sie das Brueten und die Pflege der Jungen dem Maennchen, waehrend sie nach neuen Partnern suchen... / We saw for a first time a cassowary! This strange creature ist the third tallest and second heaviest bird in the world. Female cassowaries are bigger, more brightly coloured and the dominant sex. They leave the eggs to the males to incubate and look for the young, while looking for new partners.

Ciudad de angeles / Stadt der Engel

En Tailandia solo estuvimos en Bangkok. Habiamos pensado en un comienzo ir ademas a las islas para tener unos dias de descanso, pero ese tiempo al final lo empleamos en la costa camboyana, asi que solo estuvimos unos dias en la capital tailandesa antes de tomar el vuelo a Sydney. Eso si, Bangkok es una ciudad inmensa, cosmopolita, que tiene mucho que ofrecer. Los tailandeses abrevian su largo nombre como “Krung Thep”, que quiere decir “Ciudad de angeles”, pero el nombre completo en tailandes es el siguiente:
/ Von Thailand sollten wir nur Bangkok sehen. Erst dachten wir auch ein paar ruhige Tage auf einer thailaendischen Insel zu verbringen, verbrachten aber diese Tage dann an der kambodschanischen Kueste und waren daher nur ein paar Tage in Bangkok, bevor wir nach Sydney flogen. Aber die Megalopolis Bangkok hat viel zu bieten. Die Thailaender nennen die Stadt allerdings nicht Bangkok, sondern in Kurzform „Krung Thep“, Stadt der Engel. Nicht abgekuerzt lautet die Stadt auf Thai:
/ Of Thailand we only saw Bangkok. The days we before thought to spend on a relaxing Thai island, we spend on the Cambodian coast and therefore only stayed for a few days in Bangkok before flying to Sydney. But this megalopolis has a lot to offer. The Thai call the city abbreviated „Krung Thep“, which means „City of angels“. But not abbreviated the city is called in Thai:

Aqui estamos junto al codo del mayor Buda recostado de Tailandia (46 m de largo y 15 de alto), que se encuentra en el templo de Wat Pho, el mas antiguo de Bangkok (siglo XVI) en activo. Todo el templo esta cubierto de pinturas murales, en las paredes, los techos y las columnas. Tambien es conocido porque alberga una famosa escuela de masaje, y alli mismo se pueden recibir masajes de los estudiantes, asi que nos apuntamos. El masaje tailandes es muy diferente del laosiano o del camboyano, hace un mayor enfasis en los puntos de presion y en ocasiones se usa el peso del cuerpo del masajista para ejercer presion o hacer estiramientos / Hier stehen wir vor dem groessten liegenden Buddha in Thailand (46 Meter lang und 15 Meter hoch) in Wat Pho, dem aeltesten Tempel Bangkoks, aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. Der ganze Tempel ist wunderschoen, in dem alle Waende mit Wandmalereien bedeckt sind und selbst die Decke verziert ist. Wir waren ausserdem auf eine Massage in der beruehmten Massageschule innerhalb des Tempels aus. Die thailaendische Massageweise ist wiederum sehr unterschiedlich zur laotischen oder kambodschanischen Massage mit mehr Einsatz von Energiepresspunkten und oft verlagert der Masseur sein Gewicht auf den Patienten, um mehr Druck auszuueben und zu dehnen / Here we stand in front of the biggest reclining Buddha in Thailand (46 metres long and 15 metres high) in Wat Pho, the oldest temple of Bangkok, of the 16th century. The whole temple is wonderful with all walls covered with wall paintings and even the roof decorated with paintings. Moreover we wanted to have a massage in the famous massage school inside the temple. The thai massage is again very different from the Laotian or Cambodian way of massage with pressing a lot of energy points and passing the weight onto the patient while pressing.

Esta es la presentacion en sociedad de nuestro nuevo compañero de viaje, un laptop Acer TravelMate que compramos en Bangkok, y que nos robo buena parte de nuestro tiempo en esa ciudad, aunque aparte de eso nos ha ido de maravilla para la adminstracion de las fotos y del blog. Estuvimos todo un dia en el Panthip Plaza, un enorme centro comercial solo de computadores y cosas relacionadas, hasta que nos decidimos por este. Pero problemas con el antivirus que le instalaron nos hicieron volver alli varias veces (y quedaba muy lejos de nuestro hotel) y gastar nuestro tiempo de turistas en conseguir que la maquina funcionara sin problemas, cosa que logramos la noche anterior a nuestra partida cuando ya todos los otros locales habian cerrado / Hiermit praesentieren wir oeffentlich unseren neuen Reisebegleiter, einen Acer travelmate laptop, der uns waehrend unseres gesamten Bangkokaufenthalts auf Trapp hielt, aber ab da viel Freude bereitete und fuer die Fotos und den blog sehr hilfreich ist. Zuerst verbrachten wir einen kompletten Tag im Panthip Plaza, einem grossen Einkaufszentrum nur fuer Computerartikel, bis wir uns fuer unser Baby entschieden hatten. Aber Probleme mit dem Antivirus fuehrten dazu, dass wir an beiden folgenden Tagen von einem Ende der Stadt zum anderen ins Panthip Plaza fuhren und dort die meiste Zeit verbrachten, anstatt die Stadt zu besichtigen. Erst am letzten Abend vor Abreise als schon alle Laeden geschlossen waren, funktionierte er... / Here we present officially our new travel companion, an Acer travelmate laptop, that kept us busy during our whole stay in Bangkok. But from there on we are enjoying it very much and it helps a lot dealing with the photos and preparation of the blog. First we ran a whole day around the Panthip Plaza, a huge shopping mall dedicated only to computer articles, until we decided for our baby. But problems with the antivirus led to, that the following days we drove from one side of the city to the other to the Panthip Plaza again and passed the time there instead of playing tourist. Just the last evening before leaving, when already all other shops were closed in the mall, it worked alright.




Esta es una de las caras modernas de la ciudad, el “skytrain“ o metro de Bangkok. A esa altura o incluso a veces por encimas de las lineas del skytrain discurren autopistas elevadas que atraviesan la ciudad en varios sentidos. Por cierto, en la imagen tambien se pueden ver los divertidos taxis de color rosa que abundan en sus calles / Hier zeigt sich Bangkok von seiner modernen Seite. Im Hintergrund sieht man das „skytrain“, Bangkoks Metro, die mehr als ueberirdisch faehrt. Die haben wir natuerlich auch ausprobiert. Aber manchmal fuehren auf der oberen Etage auch Autobahnen entlang. Die rosafarbenen Taxis gefielen uns auch besonders gut / Here Bangkok shows its modern face. In the background you see the skytrain, Bangkoks „under“ground. Of course we also took a ride on it. But sometimes highways are also to be found on this upper level. We especially liked the pink taxis.




Nos dimos un gusto cenando en el restaurante Face, un lugar increible por el local mismo y por la comida. En un viaje de Silke a Shanghai por trabajo, le recomendaron el Face de esa ciudad y le encanto. Tiempo despues descubrio que habia una sucursal en Bangkok, asi que esta visita estaba planeada con bastante antelacion! In Shanghai wurde mir die Filiale dort empfohlen und hatte mir so gut gefallen, dass ich rausfand, dass es auch in Bangkok eine Filiale gibt und es schon aufs Programm gesetzt. When I visited Shanghai, I was recommended the Face restaurant there and liked it so much, that I found out more about it and that there is a branch in Bangkok. Tuvimos la suerte de poder ver este mercado de pescado y de flores junto a un canal al norte del centro de la ciudad. Digo tuvimos la suerte porque ocurrio algo inesperado que nos permitio reponer en parte el tiempo perdido con el computador. De camino al aeropuerto el 14/10 para tomar el vuelo a Sydney, Silke estaba un poco triste porque ni siquiera me habia podido mostrar el Chao Praya, el gran rio que divide la ciudad con toda la vida que fluye en sus margenes, ni los mercados de flores y otras cosas. Pues bien, cuando estabamos en la cola para el check-in, paso al lado una empleada de la aerolinea con una hoja en la mano y nos pregunto que si queriamos ser voluntarios para volar un dia despues, ya que el vuelo estaba bastante lleno... Parecia caido del cielo: un dia mas para ver Bangkok y una noche en un hotel de lujo en el aeropuerto con todas las comidas, ademas de una buena suma de dinero en efectivo como compensacion! Solo habia un problema, teniamos ya reservado el hotel en Sydney a nuestra llegada, y estaba pagada la primera noche porque era un obsequio de la cliente australiana de Silke, y por si fuera poco no teniamos ningun dato de contacto del hotel (solo el nombre y la direccion), ademas de que se reducia nuestra ya de por si corta estancia en Sydney de tres dias a dos... Despues de darle vueltas mientras la cola avanzaba, decidimos aceptar la oferta siempre y cuando nos permitieran contactar el hotel en Sydney, para lo cual tuvimos que luchar con una terminal de internet del aeropuerto que era un poco rara hasta que encontramos el telefono y llamamos y se pudo cambiar la reserva! De esa manera gozamos de medio dia mas en Bangkok, una estancia de lujo en el hotel y recibimos un dinero extra que nos vino de perlas para Sydney y Nueva Zelanda / Zum Glueck konnten wir diesen Fischmarkt und den Blumenmarkt auf der anderen Seite des Kanals noch sehen. Wie es dazu kam, erzaehlt euch die folgende Geschichte: Am 14.10. sollten wir nachmittags von Bangkok aus nach Sydney fliegen. Mit der ganzen Computeraffaere konnte ich Ricardo noch nicht mal den Chao Praya Fluss zeigen, geschweige denn den Blumenmarkt und was ich sonst noch so vorhatte. Daher war ich schon etwas traurig auf dem Weg zum Flughafen, Bangkok schon zu verlassen. Als wir am Check-in-Schalter anstanden, fragte uns eine Stewardess rum, ob wir einen Tag spaeter fliegen wollen, da der Flug ueberbucht ist. Wir wuerden im schicken Novotel um die Ecke wohnen, die komplette Verpflegung bezahlt und noch dazu eine nette Bargeldkarte... Da wir schon eine Nacht in Sydney im Hotel gebucht hatten und noch dazu ein Geschenk von meiner australischen Kundin kam fuer uns das Angebot erst gar nicht in Frage. Aber dann ueberlegten wir, dass uns das Geld doch recht gerufen kaeme und ein Tag mehr in Bangkok auch... Also fragten wir, ob wir vorher einen Anruf taetigen koennen und wenn wir unsere Buchung auf einen Tag spaeter verschieben koennen, nehmen wir das Angebot an. Dann kam ein kurzer Panikmoment, wo ich an einem merkwuerdigen Computer im Internet nach der Telefonnummer unseres Hotels suchte, waehrend Ricardo ungeduldig am Schalter wartete und sich fragte, warum ich so lange brauchte, bis ich die Telefonnummer endlich fand, dort anrief, einen Tag spaeter kein Problem war und wir also einen Tag laenger in Bangkok blieben. Also genossen wir den Aufenthalt im Luxushotel, das einmalige Buffet zu jedem Essen und einen Vormittag mehr in der Innenstadt, z.Bsp. auf diesem Markt! / Luckily we were able to see this fish market and the flower market on the other side of the channel. How it came to that will tell you the following story: With all the time in Bangkok busy with the computer, I didn’t even get to show Ricardo the big Chao Praya river, not to speak about the flower market and other things. So when we drove on the 14th of October to the airport for our flight to Sydney, I was a little bit sad, that we were already leaving Bangkok. When we waited in the check-in-line, a stewardess walked around with a sign and asked us, if we would like to volunteer to fly a day later, because the flight is overbooked. We would stay in a luxury hotel at the airport, all meals provided and receive as a compensation a quite considerable amount of money...As we had already a night booked in a hotel in Sydney and moreover it was a present of my Australian customer, the offer first didn’t look feasable for us. But then we thought that the money really would help us for the following destinations Sydney and New Zealand and we could accept, if we manage to shift the booking in Sydney to a day later. So we told them, we would like to accept if we can first make a call. Then I was fighting with a strange computer there to look in Internet for the number of the hotel. When I finally found it, called there and the day later was no problem, we accepted the offer. And this is how we came to savour our stay in a luxury hotel, the amazing buffet for every meal and another half day in the city, where we saw then this market as well!




En ese pequeño mercado, ademas de ver como vendian toda clase de pescados y mariscos vivos, la gran atraccion eran las flores, y en especial las bonitas variedades de orquideas de que goza ese pais. Tambien pudimos conseguir por fin semillas de flor de loto, que nos habian ofrecido al comienzo del viaje en Kashmir pero que en ese momento no quisimos y luego nunca mas las habiamos podido encontrar. Pero no llegamos muy lejos con ellas, ya que nos las confiscaron en la aduana australiana... / Auf dem kleinen aber feinen Blumenmarkt sind natuerlich die Orchideen in allen moeglichen Formen und Farben die Hauptattraktion. Erinnerst Du dich noch, Christine, als wir vor 12 Jahren dort waren? Noch dazu fanden wir dort endlich Lotussamen, die uns ganz am Anfang in Kaschmir angeboten wurde, wir sie aber dort nicht kauften und ab kurzer Zeit spaeter ueberall suchten. Nur leider kamen wir nicht weit damit: der australische Zoll hat sie uns gleich abgenommen... / On the small but beautiful flower market the main attraction are of course orchids in all colours and forms. Moreover we finally found lotus seeds, that were offered to us all in the beginning in Kashmir, where we still didn’t want them. Shortly after we were looking for them everywhere without success. But we didn’t get very far: the Australian customs confiscated them right away...
